AAC Technologies Starts Building US$200 million R&D Center in Singapore Conducive to Deployment of Global R&D Resources

(31 October 2018 – Hong Kong) AAC Technologies Holdings Inc. (“AAC Technologies” or “the Company”; HKEX: 02018), kicked off construction of its R&D center US$200 million worth in Singapore today. The ceremony marking the beginning of works on the project representative of advancement in scientific research collaboration between China and Singapore was graced and addressed by Desmond Choo, Mayor of North East CDC, Zhong Manying, Minister Counselor for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Singapore and Lim Swee Nian, Assistant Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
Desmond Choo, Mayor of North East CDC said, “The R&D center to AAC Technologies’ name is in Tampines, one of the four key districts in Singapore. As a world-leading electronic information industry hub, Singapore produces 10% of the world's chips and is home to nine top-notch semiconductor companies among 15 in the world. As for Tampines, it boasts excellent provisions in transportation, environment, supply chain and supportive industrial services.”
At the construction kick-off ceremony, according to AAC Technologies’ representative, the R&D center, which commands a total investment of about US$200 million, will have GFA of 37,800 sq.m. Construction of phase one, with GFA of 18,900 sq.m., is expected to complete in 2019 and operation to begin in the second half of 2020. The center will mainly focus on R&D of high-end optics and MEMS, and will expand in the future to include R&D of 5Gmm wave. The AAC Technologies representative said the Group will fully tap the rich R&D and education resources in Singapore and increase investment in R&D of precision manufacturing to the end of establishing its global R&D headquarters in Singapore. Furthermore, with the new R&D center in Singapore, which is in the heart of South East Asia and South Asia thus enjoys geographical advantage, and the Group having its production bases in the same areas, AAC Technology is going to benefit from a marriage of strengths – R&D and manufacturing – enabling it to optimize global resource allocation and boost its leading edges as commanded by the emerging new global competitive landscape.
